Dye-sublimation soaks the legend into the PBT, so it will not wear off and can carry detailed, multi-colour artwork. Legends must be darker than the keycap, so dye-sub sets are usually light keys with dark legends.

What to check before you buy

  • Dye-sub legends can blur slightly at the edges; check close-up photos.
  • Dark keycaps with light legends cannot be dye-subbed; those are doubleshot or printed.
  • Check the kit covers your layout and any non-standard keys.
  • PBT thickness affects sound and spacebar warping.
