Look for a silent design

Silent switches use a sound-reducing mechanism; CHERRY’s MX Silent Red is one manufacturer example. Product names are a useful starting point, but confirm the exact variant and construction with the vendor. The selections below match “silent” in the catalog name, not a measured noise threshold.

Choose feel separately

Pick a smooth linear action or a tactile bump based on what you enjoy typing on. If you are unsure about force or the dampened feel, buy a small sample before enough switches for a whole keyboard.

Check fit and the full order

Confirm switch technology, socket support, pin count, and how many switches your layout needs. Magnetic, optical, low-profile, and conventional MX-style switches are not interchangeable just because a board says hot-swap. Multiply pack count by pack size before comparing your final spend.
